1. Rex v M E Sole
Mr Sole was charged of 16 counts of bribery and 2 of fraud. It was alleged that he had been bribed by International companies to award them Contracts on LHWP.
The High Court found him guilty on 13 counts and acquitted him on 5 counts. He was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. He appealed against both conviction and sentence. His appeal was partly successful in that his sentence was reduced to 15 years imprisonment.
Mr Sole is presently serving his sentence at the Central Prison in Maseru.
2. Rex v Acres International Limited
Acres International was charged of 2 Counts of bribery. Acres, it was alleged used the services of Mr and Mrs Bam to transfer funds to Mr Sole.
It was found guilty by the High Court and sentenced to a fine of M22,058,091.00. An appeal was lodged against both conviction and sentence. It was partially successful on appeal in that the conviction on Count 2 was upheld. Sentence was reduced to payment of a fine of 15 Million Maloti.
Acres has still to pay the fine.
