LHDA Disburses Communal Compensation at Ha-Lejone

The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) today disbursed cash payments amounting to over one million Maloti (1,117,320.51) as Communal Compensation to the communities of Ha Mikia, Ha Sebotha, Ha Sephapho, Nkisi and Mphorosane in Lejone area in Phase 1A of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
The Compensation which represents a 5 year period is for assets that were affected by the implementation of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project in Phase 1A.
The payout is being effected in line with the provisions of the Treaty signed by the Government of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa in October 1986, and the disbursements will be made on an annual basis based on a fifty year compensation period.
To date, the LHDA has disbursed over 5 million Maloti as Communal Compensation aimed at investment and development projects for the affected and host communities in Phase 1 of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
