The New Chief Executive of LHDA is Appointed

The Board of Directors of the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) in consultation with the Lesotho Highlands Water Commission (LHWC) have appointed Mr. Liphapang Elias Potloane as the Chief Executive of the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority.

The appointment is effective from 1st August 2003, and comes at a time when the LHDA enters a critical transition at the end of construction to pure operations and maintenance.

Mr. Potloane graduated with BA Economics in 1972 at the University of Botswana Lesotho and Swaziland (now known as the National University of Lesotho [NUL]). He successfully completed and was conferred with an MSc degree in Agricultural Economics at Oklahoma State University in 1978.

Mr. Potloane brings with him to LHDA wealth of experience gained from teaching, lecturing, consulting, executive management, board memberships in Lesotho and South Africa which include general management at Development Bank of Southern Africa, Nedcor Bank, South African Breweries, Maseru Tyre Company and Lesotho Agricultural Development Bank to mention but a few.

Currently Mr. Potloane is with the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry in the Republic of South Africa as Deputy Director General – Operations.

His appointment comes at a time when the Lesotho Highlands Water Commission has just completed appointing the full complement of Board Members of the LHDA.
