Handing Over Thaba-Tseka Rural Development Centre
PRESS STATEMENT (continued)
Maseru - 04 July 2003
Mr. Tau mentioned that Lesotho has two most valuable resources namely Human Resources and water. Through the sale of water, Lesotho gets royalties. At the peak of construction, many Basotho got employment which contributed a lot to the economic growth of the country. He mentioned that the Ministry, on behalf of the Government, will try all that is within its powers to ensure that negotiations for further phases are successful. “It is our expectation” Mr. Tau said “that the centre will continue to provide technical skills to the nation, and we will support the efforts by the Ministry of Education in this regard.
The Deputy Principal Secretary then handed over the keys of Thaba-Tseka Rural Development Centre as a symbolic gesture that the centre was being formally handed over to the Ministry of Education and Training.
Speaking on behalf of new owners of the RDC, after receiving the keys, the Deputy Principal Secretary for Education, Ms. Ntsebe Kokome thanked the Ministry of Natural Resources and the LHDA for “such a wonderful gift.” She mentioned that, as a way of demonstrating how committed the Ministry of Education is in receiving the assets, they have immediately put in place security to ensure that assets are not vandalised.
The Deputy Principal Secretary mentioned that the centre will function as an extension of the Lesotho College of Education with emphasis on provision of technical skills as was the case with RDC. The centre will also provide training for teachers.
Present at this occasion were senior staff from the Ministry of Education and Training and from the LHDA.
