LHDA Addresses Safety Concerns in LHWP Areas
The
Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) management has learned with
disappointment of the unfortunate treatment received by Mr. Robbert Longrigg, a South
African citizen and his group, allegedly from the residents of Makhoaba and St.
Martins in the Mokhotlong District.
According
to a report by Mr. Longrigg, they were enroute to Katse from
Sani
Pass
on May 30 2006, when their two motorbikes experienced technical problems.
Assuming the bikes were safe, they grounded them at Makhoaba and St. Martins
respectively, while they proceeded to Katse for overnight stay, and to seek help.
The following morning, they drove back to fetch the bikes, only to find that
both were vandalized, and one had also been set alight. The LHDA management
wishes to apologise to Mr. Longrigg and his group, as well as to everyone else
who may have suffered similar unreported bad incidents. The management
unreservedly condems these acts, which if left unabated will certainly tarnish
the good image of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), and injure the
fledgling tourism for Lesotho.
To
this end, LHDA has mobilised all stakeholders to address such hideous acts
through public gatherings on treatment, respect, and relationships with
tourists, as well as safety tips for
tourists.
