A BIG HOORAY for Mohale. <<..back The Chief Executive is proud to inform all staff that Mohale dam has been awarded a top award for Civil Engineering and Construction Techniques. The awards were conferred by the Concrete Society of Southern Africa on Friday 24 June 2004 at Ceacer’s Palace Convention Centre in Johannesburg. Ntate Potloane submits that the competion for these awards was very stiff and LHWP was amongst nine other equally qualifying competitors. “ The LHDA Board and the Chief Executive congratulate Mohale Consultants Group and the LHDA and particularly Steward Scott for persuading that Mohale dam be an entrant for this presitigious awards”, said The Chief. Mohale dam is a 145m high concrete- face- and rock-fill dam built across Senqunyane river at Ha Mohale. It is one of the highest of such rock-fill dams built in the world. The rock-fill material was sourced from within the dam area thus making the construction highly cost effectiveness thus maintaing the competitive edge of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. The WW team joins the Board and the the Chief in congratulating the Supervising Enginer in Mohale Dam for a sterling piece of Engineering works. to the Project Sites- Dunnes visits Mohale dam Mrs Ts’epang Sekhesa of the Lesotho National Development Corporation – LNDC wrote to advice the lhda that the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Commerce in Ireland, Mr. John Dunne expressed a wish to visit the Project area during his stay in Lesotho from 23- 26 June, 2005. Mrs Sekhesa sees the opportunity of this esteemed visitor will go along towards making Lesotho a destination of choice for investment in trade and tourism related programmes. Swaziland
RWSB visit the LHWP A group of Technicians from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Rural Water Supply Branch in Swaziland were in Lesotho and particularly visiting the LHWP sites a week ago. The group is engaged in the construction of of both macro and micro water schemes in the rural Swaziland. The objective of the trip was to visit the LHWP, exchange information and knowledge on management of construction of water supply schemes in rural Lesotho. Apparently they had heard about the successes of the Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) programmes in the LHWP sites and they wished to have further insight through seeing the infrastructure on the ground as well as talking to all relevant stakeholders to gain more information that will assist them in achieving the similar results if not more improved. Angela Jenni of the European Investment Bank visits the LHDA Lesotho held a Donor’s conference during the week of 20-27 June at the Lesotho Sun Hotel in Maseru. The International Donor Community met with prominent members of Lesotho’s cabinet including the Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Timothy Thahane. After the deliberations, The Donors were taken on guided tours to the proposed Metolong dam at Ha Makotoko and to Mohale dam at Ha Mohale. The LHDA Chief Executive received the Guests at the Information Centre where he held a session explaning the activities of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Ms. Jenni from the EIB found time to meet with the LHDA Acting Division Head in the Strategic Corporate Services Ntate Masilo Phakoe to discuss amongst others, the ‘Muela Hydrpower Project, the lhda-LEC tariff/ PSA issues on 23 June, 2005.
