Education

Botanical Gardens play an important role in conserving plants, but require education to be more successful. Therefore education becomes a core programme in the conservation and sustainable use. As such botanical gardens have become centres of education, which increase the public’s knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the value and importance of plants. Through the education programme the public will have access to wealth of information the garden holds and become increasingly aware of the urgent need to conserve and sustainably use plants. It is of vital importance to provide a stimulating, worthwhile educational experience for all visiting school children and educationalists, focusing on providing long-term support to develop the next generation of plant scientists, conservationists and environmentalists.

Outreach Programme

Communities have been assisted to establish their own community based ethno-botanical gardens. Hands-on education is provided for free to the communities on the establishment of sites, botanical conservation and management of seedlings. Development of community gardens is aimed at improving level of income in the villages through sustainable of the resources. The issue of economic development of the communities is the single most important factor, which give meaning and indeed determines the participation and success of conservation activities.
