Katse Alpine Botanical Gardens <<..backLesotho’s flora has been profoundly modified; nonetheless the country still contains diverse range of plants of which some are endemic to it only. In accordance with these the Katse Botanical Garden has and still developing as an initiative to support a national strategy in conservation of plant genetic resources as well as focusing on the local needs for plant conservation in the surrounding areas. CollectionsLiving collectionsPlantsLesotho is characterised by high richness and concentration of endemic plant species amounting to 30%. Currently the garden holds and maintains a unique collection of these. Also the garden is maintaining and building a valuable collection of plants representing the major ecosystems in Lesotho. The garden is still at an infancy stage; it currently has 500 taxa with a diverse living collection of Lesotho flora. The collections provide a reference that serves aspects of education, horticulture and income generation for local communities. Gardens
